Title: Cardiff MAS Carnival 2008
Description: The 19th annual Cardiff MAS Carnival brings Cardiff City Centre alive with hundreds of flamboyant costumes and carnival creations, masks and headpieces, giant puppets on backpacks and mobile sculptures – all dancing dynamically through the streets of Cardiff with a finale presentation at The Big Weekend on City Hall Lawns. Cardiff MAS Carnival 2008 is called “BEHIND THE MASK" and will use masks from across the globe to explore issues of Cultural Identity. During Carnival your everyday 'mask' slips, so expect a cavalcade of spectacular Giant Masks as the masqueraders reveal their true selves... The parade leaves from the Canal Path Park in Butetown at 12.00 midday, parading up Bute Street and through The Hayes and on to The Big Weekend on City Hall Lawns at 2.00pm. After the parade, enjoy authentic LIVE Caribbean carnival sounds plus the hottest Carnival DJ’s playing the latest tunes from recent carnivals around the world. DON’T JUST VIEW IT, COME AND DO IT ! Want to join in the parade ? If so, simply come along and take part in three weeks of FREE Carnival Arts Workshops From Wed. 16th July – Fri. 1st August (midday to 9.00pm) at the Butetown Youth Pavilion on Dumballs Road – all welcome, no experience necessary, expert team of multicultural carnival artists, drummers and dancers on hand throughout.
